Woburn Safari Park
Woburn Safari Park set out to create an industry leading, first
of its kind in the country, sensory education centre, designed to make learning
more accessible, inclusive, and engaging for visitors with disabilities.
The goal was to develop an environment where information could be experienced through
touch as well as sight, ensuring no visitor is excluded from the learning experience.
Woburn wanted a fun and engaging way to include compliant
tactile and braille signage. The goal was to develop an environment where
information could be experienced through touch as well as sight, ensuring no
visitor is excluded from the learning experience.
We were brought in to design, develop and deliver a suite of
tactile and braille signage to support this vision.
The project required more than standard signage. It needed
to:
- Deliver
fully accessible braille signage
- Incorporate
raised tactile graphics for visual interpretation
- Introduce
true sensory elements to enhance engagement
- Be
designed, prototyped, approved, and delivered in an exceptionally tight
timeframe
From initial enquiry to installation, the entire project
timeline was under 2 weeks.

We worked closely with the Woburn team from the outset,
managing the entire process:
- Initial
consultation and concept development
- Material
research and tactile testing
- Rapid
prototyping and R&D
- Design
refinement and client sign-off
- Full
production and delivery
Every stage was handled at pace, without compromising on
detail or compliance.
Tactile & Braille Signage
We produced a series of internal signs featuring:
- Raised
print and high-build graphics
- Fully
compliant braille
- Tactile
animal illustrations designed for intuitive interaction
Each sign was created to ensure clarity, durability, and
ease of use for all visitors.
Sensory Interpretation Signs
To elevate the experience further, we developed three
bespoke interpretation signs, each incorporating materials chosen to
reflect the animal itself:
- Hermann’s
tortoise with a replica textured shell surface
- Guinea
pigs featuring realistic faux fur
- Axolotl
with a rubberised material finish
These elements transformed traditional signage into interactive
learning tools, encouraging visitors to engage through touch.
The finished signage plays a key role in bringing the
sensory education centre to life, supporting Woburn Safari Park’s commitment to
accessibility and inclusion.
- A
fully immersive, tactile learning environment
- Signage
designed for real interaction, not just visibility
- A
seamless blend of compliance, creativity, and durability
- End-to-end
delivery in under 14 days
This project demonstrates that
accessibility can be Innovative in its execution Experiential in
its design Efficiently delivered without compromise.
Most importantly, it shows that when accessibility is considered from the beginning, it becomes an integral part of the experience rather than an addition.
